  1. This document fully describes the new features and fixes 
  2. since Hotline Client 1.8.3r2 and Hotline Server 1.8.2.
  3.  
  4. Who Should Update?
  5. We encourage all to upgrade to the newest version to take 
  6. advantage of the fixes thatare detailed below. Server admins 
  7. who want to edit permissions for multiple accounts 
  8. simultaneously will especially benefit from our easy new 
  9. administration features. 
  10.  
  11. New Features:
  12. - Hotline account administration easier
  13. - Hotline Client 1.8.4 adds the Hotline administrator 
  14. Window, which allows server admins to add and edit multiple 
  15. accounts at the same time on their 1.8.4 servers. Using the 
  16. new Hotline Administrator Window, admins can create a number 
  17. of accounts, and then assign some or all of them the same 
  18. privileges.
  19.  
  20. User account administration:    
  21. a) When an account is deleted the Server disconnects 
  22. all users who are connected using this account.    
  23. b) When the Can Disconnect User and Can Use Any Name 
  24. privileges are modified for an account the Server 
  25. updates the status of all users who are connected using 
  26. this account.
  27.  
  28. New admin account options:
  29. - You can now reset the head admin account's password and 
  30. privileges from the Server Options window. You can also 
  31. change the admin account's login, or specify an existing 
  32. account as the head admin account. In addition, from the 
  33. Server Toolbar, you can launch a Client and connect directly 
  34. to the admin account on your server with the click of a 
  35. button.
  36. - New checks on admin account for additional security
  37. - To keep you server secure, 
  38. the server will now check to make sure that the head admin 
  39. account exists and has a password. If it does not, the 
  40. server will prompt you to create a head admin account, 
  41. and/or specify a password for the account.

  43. Fixes in Version 1.8.4:
  44. Issue:     Win95 fails to play Quicktime banners or view 
  45. Quicktime files
  46. Solution:     Fixed.
  47.  
  48. Issue:     The Chat window goes blank after 32,000 pixels are 
  49. used. As well, long lists of Files or Trackers are cut off.
  50. Solution:     Fixed. 
  51.  
  52. Issue:     Text in the Chat window is not updated when the 
  53. window is minimized.
  54. Solution:    The text in the Chat window is updated if 
  55. the window is open but minimized.
  56.  
  57. Issue: Broadcast messages are "cut off" if you do not insert 
  58. hard returns after 142 characters. 
  59. Solution:     Broadcast messages are now displayed in a 
  60. new dialog with a scroll bar. The size limit for broadcast 
  61. messages has been increased to 4096 characters.
  62.  
  63. Issue:     The Client "forgets" the widths of columns in the 
  64. Files and News windows.
  65. Solution:     Fixed.
  66.  
  67. Issue:     The Client uses the time at which the download 
  68. connection is established to generate stats, rather than 
  69. the time that the download actually starts. When a download 
  70. waits in the server queue to start, the stats displayed in 
  71. the taskbar are incorrect.
  72. Solution:    In order to establish the connection speed 
  73. and caclulate the completion percentage of a file transfer,
  74. which are displayed in the Tasks bar, the Client now uses 
  75. the time at which the download starts.
  76.  
  77. Fixes in Version 1.8.4:
  78. Issue:     Users are allowed to add a tracker with a blank 
  79. address field.
  80. Solution:     Users are no longer allowed to add a 
  81. tracker with an empty address.
  82.  
  83. Issue:     If the user clicks the Next Ad button while a 
  84. server banner is displayed in the toolbar, a new banner 
  85. is requested from the Advertising System but is not 
  86. displayed.  The Client ignores the new banner and continues 
  87. to display the server banner.
  88. Solution:    The Next Ad button will be disabled while 
  89. a server banner is displayed in the toolbar.
  90.  
  91. Issue:    The ToolTip associated with a button is sometimes 
  92. displayed after the mouse is no longer over the button.
  93. Solution:    Fixed
  94.  
  95. Issue:    In Windows, the toolbar of a Client in the 
  96. background will continue to flash, after a private message 
  97. is received and    immediately dismissed without first 
  98. selecting the application.
  99. Solution:    Fixed
  100.  
  101. Issue:    Horizontal or vertical scrollbars are sometimes 
  102. displayed on top of the banner in the Client toolbar.
  103. Solution:    Fixed
  104.  
  105. Issue:    On servers running on Windows, uploading to a 
  106. folder that is actually a shortcut to a network folder 
  107. fails to upload because the function that calculates free 
  108. disk space fails.
  109. Solution:    Fixed the function that calculates the 
  110. free disk space, allowing uploads to occur.
  111.  
  112. Issue:    When a user with the Can Upload Anywhere privilege 
  113. attempts to upload to a shortcut which includes "upload" 
  114. or "dropbox" in its name that links to a folder that does 
  115. not, the 
  116. upload fails. (For example, "artuploads.lnk", a shortcut to 
  117. "art".) The user receives the error message "Cannot accept 
  118. upload... because you are only allowed to upload to the 
  119. Uploads folder."
  120. Solution:    Fixed so that the Client can upload
  121.  
  122. Issue:    In the Windows version of the Client, some 
  123. buttons are not displayed correctly (for example, 
  124. chat button, broadcast button).
  125. Solution:    Fixed
  126.  
  127. Issue:    A corruption of the "News History" database results 
  128. in news posts being displayed incorrectly. Most often, 
  129. already read news posts are displayed as unread. 
  130. Solution:    Fixed
  131.  
  132. Issue:    On servers running on Windows, downloading a 
  133. shortcut results in the target file or folder being 
  134. downloaded.  However, the .lnk extension is not removed.
  135. Solution:    The extension (.lnk) is removed after the 
  136. download completes.
  137.  
  138. Issue:    When a Client receives a broadcast message from 
  139. another client on the server, and dismisses it after the 
  140. connection to the server has been ended, the Client crashes.
  141. Solution:    Fixed.
